Lunch: PLEASE send in lunch/milk money on Monday.
Special Baking Days: Second grade curriculum has many measurement standards. Each child will have a special day to bake at school to provide a hands on experience with measurement. Parents are not required to attend. I will send a note home telling you when it is your child's turn to bake. All you have to do is send in a baking mix for cake, cupcakes, brownies etc. and let me know a few days ahead of time and I will provide the cupcake papers, eggs, oil and pans. One child a week will be baking. This activity lasts throughout the school year.
Birthdays: Birthdays are a special time for second graders. Some children, in the past have brought party invitations to school to be passed out. If it is not possible to invite everyone, PLEASE mail the invitations. The school has a directory with the addresses of each student. This will help avoid tears and bad feelings.
Medication: Make sure the school office has medication information on file for dosage, time of dosage, etc. You must fill out required paperwork in the office. Please let me know if there are any medical conditions that I should be aware of. I cannot keep, dispense or administer any medication (including cough drops, ibuprofen etc.) in the classroom. Your child cannot keep any medication in their lockers or desks.
Early Pick Up or Dismissal: Please send a note if you will be picking up your child early. I will NOT allow your child to go home with anyone whose name is not currently on file in the school office. In rare instances I will accept a phone call or email from you.
Buses
If your child will be riding a different bus, I will need written permission from you. This is being done to ensure your child's safety. Without a note, your child will not be allowed to travel on a different bus, and will be placed on his or her assigned bus. Since many buses are close to or at capacity, your child may not be able to ride a different bus. The office will check to see if there is enough seats on the bus for extra children.
Pocket Folders: Your child's pocket folder should go to and from school daily. Please check it nightly for papers or notes.
Classroom Supplies: As you will soon discover, I will be sending home books and the children will have an opportunity to earn Pez. Reading is hard work, especially in the beginning stages. Your child will start their own Pez collection as a reward for working hard. Our classroom collects empty pop cans to help buy new and replace worn out favorite books, Pez, and special things for the classroom, ie. treats for time and money Bingo etc. Feel free to send in pop cans at any time. Some children have brought in one or two cans while others bring in trash bags full. Any can helps!
If you do not use the Michaels' coupons, located in your Sunday newspaper, please send them in. I can use them to purchase wiggly eyes, paint and other craft supplies for the classroom.
Toys and Cell Phones: PLEASE do not send either of these items to school with your child.
If you have questions that I have not answered, you may not be the only one wondering; please feel free to write, call or email me.
